How much does Opus Clip actually cost?

Opus Clip is free for 60 minutes of source video a month with a watermark, then $15 a month (Starter, 150 minutes) or $29 a month (Pro, 300 minutes). The number that matters is the minutes: you are billed by the length of the video you upload, not by the clips you get out, and unused minutes don't roll over. A two-hour podcast uses 120 of them whether you keep one clip or twenty.

Free is genuinely free, but note the three limits together: watermark, 9:16 only, and exports that expire after three days. It is a trial with no end date rather than a plan you would publish from.
What does "minutes" mean?
One minute of uploaded source video costs one minute of your allowance, regardless of how many clips come out. So the question isn't "how many clips do I want", it's "how long are the videos I clip from, and how many of them a month":

The step from Starter to Pro is where most weekly podcasts land: 150 minutes is three 45-minute episodes, and a month has four or five.
What a minute actually costs
Divide the price by the allowance and the plans turn out to cost almost exactly the same per minute. The discount is in annual billing, not in moving up a tier.

Going from Starter to Pro does not make each minute cheaper; it raises the ceiling. Committing to a year roughly halves the rate. That is the whole shape of their pricing.
Where the crossover with a flat price falls
A flat subscription works the other way round: the more you clip, the less each minute costs. tondi is $10 a month with no allowance, so:

The break-even is around 100 minutes of source video a month. Below roughly an hour, Opus Clip's free tier costs nothing and is the sensible choice if the watermark and the three-day expiry do not bother you. Between one and two hours the two are close enough that features should decide it. Above about two hours a month a flat price pulls ahead and keeps pulling, because there is no ceiling to hit.
Seats, if more than one person clips
Checked on 18 October 2026, their pricing page lists Pro as two users per pack and up to four users, and Business as unlimited. Free and Starter do not state a seat count. So a second editor is a reason to be on Pro independently of minutes, and a fifth editor means Business.
tondi has no seat model at all: one subscription follows one person across the Macs they work on, and a second editor needs their own $10. That is cheaper per head at small numbers and has no team administration behind it — no shared workspace, no central billing. Which of those you want is a real choice, and tondi for agencies is blunt about the gaps.
What isn't in the headline price?
- Tax. Prices are before sales tax or VAT where it applies.
- Minutes reset monthly and don't carry over. A quiet month is paid for anyway.
- Exports expire. On Free after 3 days, on paid plans after 30, unless a Pro user turns on cloud storage. Download what you made.
- Annual billing is where the discount is. Pro at $29 monthly is $348 a year; billed annually it is roughly half that. The monthly price on the page is the one you pay if you don't commit.
Why is it priced per minute at all?
Because the processing happens on their servers, and a server-minute costs them money. Every cloud clipper meters the same way for the same reason, with different names for the unit — minutes, credits, uploads. The only way to remove the meter is to move the work off their servers and onto your own computer, which is what tondi does: the same job runs on your Mac, so there is nothing to meter, and it is $10 a month flat, or free for 3 clips per video with no expiry on the clips. Is Opus Clip cheaper than tondi?

Does the annual plan change the minute allowance?
No. Annual billing lowers what you pay for the same 300 minutes a month on Pro; it does not give you more of them.
What happens if I run out of minutes mid-month?
Their pricing page showed no add-on price when checked, so the options are to wait for the reset or move up a tier. If running out is a regular occurrence, that is the signal that a metered plan is the wrong shape for your volume.
